What engineering roles does Palantir hire for, and what does it pay?

Total compensation ranges roughly $145K to $436K, with a median package around $223K and a Software Engineer average near $250K (about $177K base plus stock). Palantir uses internal bands rather than public L-number levels.
What is Palantir's 'decomposition' round?
It's Palantir's signature coding round: you're given an ambiguous real-world scenario, model it into objects and data structures, and implement working functionality live, then extend it as the interviewer adds requirements. It rewards clean, readable, extensible code and clear communication over exotic algorithms, and is the round that most differentiates Palantir from other tech companies.
How hard is the coding, and what language should I use?
The algorithmic coding is generally easy-to-medium, not trick-heavy hard, Palantir values working, readable, testable code and clear reasoning over clever one-liners. Python is a common and safe choice. Expect arrays/strings/hashmaps most often, with some graphs, trees, and recursion.
Do SWE and FDE interviews differ?
The technical core is largely shared, the same coding and decomposition rounds. FDE loops add a customer-scenario / product-sense conversation and weight communication and comfort with ambiguity more heavily. Note the FDE scenario is a fit/technical discussion, not a consulting case with market-sizing math.
