Citi

Publishes a five-step process and says outright that the final stage differs by program and location, which is the honest version of what the last day looks like. The question mix is the most valuation-weighted of the bulge brackets, and its global footprint turns up as genuinely cross-border valuation questions.

The Citi process

3 of 6 stages you can practise here

  1. 01
    Application (Workday)

Submit through the Citi online portal, which runs on Workday and needs a Citi-specific account even if you already have one elsewhere. Summer Analyst applications typically open in September the year before the May or June start, are aimed at penultimate-year students, and the internship runs 8 to 16 weeks.

  2. 02
    Skills evaluation (not simulated here)

Citi publishes this step as a skills discovery survey for EMEA and global Services programs, or an assessment confirming coding skills for programs in Tech. There is no coding assessment on the investment banking track, and Americas banking candidates commonly move straight from application to first interview.

  3. 03

The published one-on-one screen: background, motivation and whether Citi is specific

    motivationcommunicationbackground fit
  4. 04
First-round interviews with the banking team

Reported rather than published: roughly 30-minute conversations with analysts and associates, part fit and part analyst-level technicals. Citi interviewers are known for pushing on valuation more than most, so this seat usually turns into multiples and a DCF quickly.

    2 rounds you can practise

The banker fit round: motivation, ownership and whether you follow the firm

    A valuation-heavy first round

  5. 05

The deciding seat: back-solved valuation, merger math and cross-border judgment

  6. 06
    Offer extended

If you are the best fit for the role, a recruiter reaches out with the offer and its details.

Common questions

Is there a coding round in the Citi investment banking interview?
No. Citi publishes that the coding assessment in its skills evaluation step applies to programs in Tech; the investment banking analyst track has no coding round and is entirely spoken.
What are the stages of the Citi early careers process?
Citi publishes five: apply, skills evaluation, a one-on-one first interview, a final stage, and an offer. The skills evaluation is a skills discovery survey for EMEA and global Services programs, or a coding assessment for programs in Tech.
What is the Citi final stage?
It varies. Citi publishes that the final stage consists of either multiple interviews, an assessment or a case study exercise, depending on the program and the location. In the Americas the banking version is a superday of back-to-back interviews.
How technical is the Citi investment banking interview?
Valuation-heavy. Roughly a quarter of reported questions are valuation questions and another one in six is a DCF question, so expect methodology tradeoffs, what actually moves a DCF, and back-solving a share price or a leverage ratio from a block of figures in the final stage.
