Two Sigma · Software engineer / quant researcher · Interns / New grads (level-dependent for experienced hires)
Online Assessment (HackerRank)
Timed, autograded, no interviewer
What this round is judged on
- Algorithmic correctness · passing hidden test cases
- Data-structure & algorithm fluency · picking the right tool
- Complexity · efficient time/space under a timer
- Edge cases · handling boundaries and empty inputs

What happens in each stage›
- Application / Resume Screen
- Resume plus (for new grads) an online application. QR and QuantDev candidates are filtered hard on academic/research pedigree (PhD or strong quantitative degree, publications, competition background).
- Online Assessment
- Timed HackerRank-style autograded test. SWE: 2-4 algorithmic problems, roughly LeetCode medium with some hard, ~60-90 min. QR/QuantDev leans harder into probability, statistics, and math alongside coding. Presence for experienced SWE hires is level-dependent/contested.
- Recruiter Screen
- ~30 min spoken call: logistics, motivation (why Two Sigma, why quant/this role), and a background walkthrough.
- Technical Phone Screen
- One (sometimes two) 45-60 min video calls. SWE: live coding on a shared editor with follow-ups. QR: mix of probability/stats, light coding, and discussion of past research.
- Onsite / Superday
- Typically 4-6 back-to-back 45-60 min rounds. SWE: 2-3 coding, 1 system design (heavier at senior levels), 1 behavioral, sometimes a CS-fundamentals round. QR: 1-2 probability/stats, coding, a research/project deep-dive, and behavioral.
- Hiring Committee Debrief / Team Match
- Interviewers submit written feedback; a committee-style debrief decides. Some pipelines then run team matching before an offer.

Built from what Two Sigma publishes about its own process and from real interview data. No leaked question lists. The questions you get are generated against your own resume, so they are not from anyone else's interview.
Company description, mission ("rigorous scientific inquiry," "signals across markets to deliver alpha"), and culture language ("think like scientists," "kindness, collaboration, and continuous learning").
Hiring philosophy and candidate qualities ("problem solvers, academics, and inventors"; "hypothesize, collaborate with their peers, and develop their intellectual curiosity") and role families (Engineering; Quantitative Research).
SWE leveling ladder L1-L6, used to scale round difficulty by level. Page confirms levels; it does not describe the interview process.

Other Two Sigma rounds
- Recruiter Screen
Conversational logistics and motivation call with a recruiter
- Technical Phone Screen (live coding)
Live coding on a shared editor over video
- Onsite Coding Round
Onsite/superday live-coding round, harder than the phone screen
- System Design (SWE)
Verbal/whiteboard, no coding
- Probability & Statistics (Quant Researcher)
Fast, escalating verbal round with scratch math
- Research / Project Deep-Dive (Quant Researcher)
You present a past research project, thesis, or modeling problem; interviewers interrogate methodology, assumptions, validation, and alternatives
- Behavioral & Fit
Conversational behavioral round, not a named-rubric interrogation like Amazon
