Oliver Wyman
Oliver Wyman calls its fit round a conversational interview, and means it: no named behavioral instrument, just your interest in business, your accomplishments and what you do outside your studies. This guide covers that conversation, not the case.
The Oliver Wyman process
3 of 6 stages you can practise here
- 01
Light opening conversation about your background, your interest in business and why Oliver Wyman
motivation & fitinterest in businesscommunication - 02Online assessment (office-variable, not simulated here)
Office- and cohort-dependent, and the least certain element of this loop: no Oliver Wyman careers page mentions an online assessment, and the global, UK/Ireland and Netherlands interview-prep pages are identical in naming only two interview types. Treat it as NOT company-confirmed. It is not a spoken round and is out of scope for this product either way.
- 03
Oliver Wyman's own name for its fit round, run as the opening segment of each case block
interest in businessaccomplishmentscreativity & initiative - 04
Same conversational format with a partner, weighted toward whether they would put you in front of a client
motivation & fitpresence & maturityinitiative - 05Case interview (not simulated here)
Oliver Wyman calls it 'an interactive exercise in analytical thinking', often based on real client challenges. It runs as a fixed sequence of numbered sub-questions the interviewer poses in order, with data released only when you ask. Verbal, not coding, and excluded from this product by design.
- 06Offer decision
Office-level decision weighing both the conversational and case portions across every interview. Oliver Wyman does not publish turnaround times.
Common questions
- Does Oliver Wyman have a coding round for consulting roles?
- No. The Oliver Wyman consulting loop has no coding or system-design round. Oliver Wyman's careers site describes exactly two interview types, conversational interviews and case interviews, and both are spoken exercises. Technical assessments belong to its separate specialty businesses such as Oliver Wyman Vector and Oliver Wyman Engineers, not to the generalist consulting process.
- What is an Oliver Wyman conversational interview?
- It is Oliver Wyman's own name for its fit interview. Per the firm, it is your chance to discuss 'your background, interests, and career objectives', and its goal is to understand 'your interest in business, your goals for the future, and your accomplishments and experiences'. Oliver Wyman also frames it as two-way, calling it your opportunity to ask questions about the firm.
- What does Oliver Wyman look for in entry-level candidates?
- Oliver Wyman says it values 'initiative, intuition, creativity, and a strong problem-solving mindset', welcomes 'all academic majors or industry experiences', and appreciates 'evidence of an interesting and impactful life outside of your studies'. In the case it assesses six published abilities: approaching unstructured challenges, evaluating data, thinking outside the box, applying common sense, asking the right questions, and communicating ideas.

Per-question evaluation criteria including quantitative analysis and 'ability to synthesize information into a meaningful insight and drive the case forward'; case data released only when the candidate asks for it.
