Behavioral / competency interview
Structured competency interview
What they actually ask
The question shapes this round uses. Larpy does not read these out. It builds each one from your own resume, because the generic version is the one you have already rehearsed.
- “Give me an example of a time when you were juggling a lot of responsibilities. How did you handle it?”
- “Describe a time when you saw a problem and took the initiative to correct it.”
- “Tell me about a conflict you had with a team member. How did you handle it?”
- “Think of a time when you had to complete a rush project but didn't have all the information you needed.”
- “Tell me about a time when you had to lead a project or team. What was the outcome?”
- “Can you provide an example of a time when you had to adapt to a significant change?”
What this round is judged on
- Track record of achievement · concrete, owned results
- Communication · clear, concise, impactful answers (STAR)
- Leadership and teaming · working with and influencing others
- Resilience and adaptability · handling ambiguity and change
- Problem-solving · initiative on complex challenges

- Application + resume screen
- Standard ATS submission and resume review. Not simulated.
- Online assessment / job simulation (campus & some pipelines)
- Game-style or scenario-based assessment; common for campus/UK early-careers. Not confirmed on an official US page and not a spoken round, so not simulated.
- First-round behavioral / competency interview (spoken)
- Phone or live video with a recruiter or manager, 30-45 min. Structured 'tell me about a time' questions plus motivation/fit. Simulated.
- Final round / interview day (behavioral portion, spoken)
- One to two back-to-back interviews with senior managers/partners. For consulting this day also holds the case (excluded); the behavioral/fit half is simulated.
- Decision, offer, and onboard
- Written offer typically within one week of the final interview. Not simulated.
Sources
Built from what Deloitte publishes about its own process. No leaked question lists. The questions you get are generated against your own resume, so they are not from anyone else's interview.
Verbatim example behavioral questions; STAR method instruction; competencies assessed (track record, communication, leadership and teaming, aptitude); firm draws (impact, celebrated for who you are, curiosity).
"Expect two to three rounds of interviews, via either telephone, video, or in person"; behavioral/technical/case mix depending on role; funnel stages; offer within one week of final interview.
Describes a LIVE synchronous video interview ('treat your video interview as though you are in the room with the other person'), contradicting a universal one-way/recorded round.
