Bain

Bain runs an experience interview alongside each case: a warm but pointed conversation about your past, scored on individual ownership, quantified impact and genuine fit. This guide covers that fit portion; the case is a separate exercise.

The Bain process

3 of 6 stages you can practise here

  1. 01
    Application review

Resume and often a cover letter; campus applications are tied to a specific office. Bain: "our team will review your application."

  3. 03
    Online assessment (office-variable)

An online screen is well corroborated and maps to Bain's "online assessments" / "a fun challenge to work through." The specific vendor/product is NOT confirmed and varies by market.

  5. 05

In the final round the fit portion can run longer with a senior interviewer or partner, and experienced/MBA candidates face more partner time and a heavier expectation of a coherent "why consulting /

  6. 06
    Offer decision

Office-level committee. Bain emphasizes an "objective scoring system" and that "after each interview, you'll learn exactly how it went."

Common questions

Does Bain have a coding round for consulting roles?
No. There is no coding round anywhere in the Bain consulting (Associate Consultant / Consultant) loop. Bain's careers site mentions coding challenges only for certain technical roles. The analytical instrument for consulting is the case interview, which this product does not simulate.
What is the Bain "experience interview"?
It is Bain's spoken behavioral/fit segment. Per Bain, candidates "discuss past experiences, personal, academic, and professional," and interviewers assess how you connect your skills to the role and your understanding of Bain's operating principles. It usually runs as the first ~10-15 minutes of each case block.
How does Bain evaluate candidates?
Bain says feedback is "based on an objective scoring system" and that you'll "only be assessed on things that really matter." Interviews are "designed to highlight your strengths and show us how you think," looking for "problem-solving skills and aptitude in the areas relevant to your role."
How should I prepare for the fit portion?
Bain advises coming "prepared to speak to your past experience and why it's relevant for the role," reviewing Bain's operating principles, researching your interviewers, and bringing your own questions. It stresses "there's no prototypical candidate" and that they want to see how you think.
