A centralized, program-based pipeline that ends in a Power Day of back-to-back virtual interviews. The distinctive part for engineers: Capital One lists a business case interview as a required Power Day component for its Technology Development Program, alongside behavioral and technical rounds.

A spoken stand-in for the Virtual Job Tryout
Position-dependent. Capital One describes an hour-long virtual exam that tests your knowledge of the position, sitting between the recruiter screen and the hiring manager pre-screen. It does not name a platform and does not describe it as a coding assessment.
A 30-minute call with the hiring manager
The final round: a series of back-to-back virtual interviews held on Zoom, with video required throughout. What it contains varies by program. For the Technology Development Program, Capital One lists behavioral, case and technical interviews.

Competency questions in the published format
Aptitude for the role, the team and the culture
Debrief and decision after Power Day. Capital One says candidates most often hear a decision from their recruiter within two weeks.
Built from what Capital One publishes about its own process and from real interview data. No leaked question lists. The questions you get are generated against your own resume, so they are not from anyone else's interview.
Process stages and their order: automated assessment, recruiter screen, hour-long virtual test of role knowledge, 30-minute hiring manager pre-screen, then Power Day. Power Day round definitions for job fit, behavioral and case. The "Tell me about a time when" format and the competencies problem solving, influence and results focus. Mini case interviews run about 30 minutes and apply to campus, business analyst, product manager and finance positions. Video is required for all virtual interviews.
The per-program interview matrix. The Technology Development Program & Internship requires behavioral, case and technical interviews, and is not listed among the programs requiring job fit interviews. The online assessment gates the Analyst, Machine Learning and Technology development programs. Power Day is the final round, and a decision most often comes from the recruiter within two weeks.
Power Day is reached after the recruiter and hiring manager phone calls, runs as a series of virtual interviews on Zoom, requires candidates to stay on video for the full duration, and does not include a case interview for every position.
SWE level ladder: Associate Software Eng, Software Eng (Senior Associate), Senior Software Eng (Principal Associate), Lead Software Eng, Senior Lead Software Eng, then Distinguished and Senior Distinguished Eng.
A Capital One engineering lead confirms behavioral interviews are run for candidates at the internship, Technology Development Program and professional levels, names "Tell me about yourself" as the standard engineering interview opener, and describes an individual contributor ladder with levels equivalent to people management up to the executive level.
The automated assessment is named: the Virtual Job Tryout, 20 to 45 minutes, built from the modules Manage Relationships, Work Your Business Case, Tell Us Your Story and Describe Your Approach. All interviews are virtual and hosted on Zoom.
The Technology Development Program is a two-rotation software engineering program, with Java/Spring, Python, Go and Swift named as the stacks associates work in.
Capital One publishes exactly two company values, excellence and do the right thing. They are separate from the interview competencies and are not presented as an interview rubric.
